Everyday miracles series

There is a quote which is often attributed to Einstein – “There are only two ways to live your life. One is as though nothing is a miracle. The other is as though everything is.”

Someone reading this might be thinking, tomatoes, Emily, really? You are writing about miracles and pairing that with a painting of... tomatoes.

Yes. Indeed.

One of the first people I told that I wanted to do a series of food paintings seemed a bit... undazzled. But in true artist style, what I am excited about is not tomatoes on the vine or fancy French toast, but what this project represents for me.

I find often that I am worrying over the next thing, generally the things that I want but don't have the means for yet, or simply haven't put in the work for yet. But the news in the past several months has made me more aware of the little things that I don't need to worry about, which others have to. The question we ask where I live is "what will we have for dinner tonight?" and not, "will we have dinner tonight?"

...

When I'm always pushing, pushing for something I don't have, or worrying about the future, I forget to appreciate what's right in front of me. So what I'm working on now is meant to be a meek antidote to a "lack" mindset, a reminder not to get bogged down by what appears to be the ugly or the unfair. This series is about loving every good thing in life and counting each of those things as proof of God's care.

(And expecting and supporting progress for those who don't seem to be able to access goods to meet their most basic needs.)

This little (8x8 in) canvas will be added to the website for sale in March, along with the rest of the "Everyday miracles series".
